How to maintain electric bikes?

Electric bicycles are more and more popular in the city, which not only brings us great convenience but also saves us a few transportation costs. However, we will encounter some problems in daily use. What we need to know is what problems electric bikes will confront, and then we can find the correct solutions according to these problems. The most common one is battery life, followed by motor or brake problems. In fact, most of these problems are caused by improper daily maintenance or improper use. What should we do? Let's learn some maintenance tips for e-bikes.

Proper use of the charger

Keep the habit of charging the battery as it is being used. It is not a good idea to wait until the battery runs out, or it will shorten the battery life. If the e-bike is not used for a long time, it should be charged at least once a month. Remember to use the matching special charger for charging. Don’t choose a charger that exceeds the battery load current it will cause damage to the battery. When we adopt the charger to the electric vehicle, we should select the current load specified by the charger in the manual. The bumps during riding every day will cause damage to the charger, after a year or two, we need to check out the charger and replace it with a new one.

Battery maintenance

In addition to the impact of the charger on the battery life, the maintenance of the battery itself is also very important. What is the correct charging method? The correct charging method should first keep the remaining electricity within a reasonable range for charging.

All batteries have their own charging times. Excessive charging of the remaining power will prematurely consume their charging and discharging times and reduce their service life. In addition, recharging when the power is too low will also damage the battery. It is recommended that we charge the electric bike when there is more than 20% power left.

The charging time should also be within a reasonable range. Generally, the charging time of electric vehicles should be 8-10 hours, which can be appropriately extended in winter. If the charging time is too long, it may cause overcharge and battery bulge, and it will shorten the battery life.

Storage environment

Electric bicycles should be protected from rain and sun, long-term humid environment will lead to a short circuit of the motor battery water inlet line. Excessive exposure to the sun will lead to accelerated body aging.

Cleaning and lubrication

According to the service conditions, the front axle, rear axle, center axle, flywheel, front fork, shock absorber rotating fulcrum, and other components shall be scrubbed and lubricated every 6 months. The transmission parts in the electric hub have been coated with special lubricating oil, so it is not necessary to scrub and lubricate.

Brake inspection

In the daily use of electric bicycles, few users check the durability of the brake pads. The internal brake pads wear out slowly with use. If they are not checked for a long time, the brake pads will also rust. With the wear and corrosion of the brake pads, accidents may occur during riding. The correct approach is to check the brake pads every six months to ensure braking is intact. At the same time, check the power-off brake handle of the front and rear brakes, especially the left brake handle of the rear brake. If the power-off fails, the controller may be damaged during use.

Proper use

Don’t use the electric vehicle excessively. It shall be properly idle so that the battery can recover its chemical properties. Try to avoid the deep discharge of electric bicycle batteries caused by continuous long-distance riding.
